First Look at Jude Law and Colin Firth as Literary Icons in 'Genius'

This is turning out to be a busy Cannes for Lionsgate as they've added a pair of potential Oscar-bait films to their growing roster. Alongside Gus Van Sant's Sea of Trees, they've also picked up Genius, which stars Colin Firth as editor Max Perkins and Jude Law as acclaimed author Thomas Wolfe.

We're getting a first look at the film which centers on the life-changing personal and professional relationship between the two literary giants. Wolfe was one of the most influential authors of the 20th century for his insightful reflections on American culture, but he needed an experienced editor like Perkins to rein him in. This caused disagreements later on, however the two will always be linked and some say they had a father/son relationship. Wolfe was also known for his big appetites for food, alcohol, and women.

Nicole Kidman, Dominic West, Guy Pearce, and Laura Linney co-star with Tony-winning director Michael Grandage directing from a John Logan script. We'll find out whether Genius is truly Oscar-worthy when Lionsgate decides on a release date.
