'Star Wars: Rogue One' Casts Diego Luna Opposite Felicity Jones

Where has Diego Luna been for the last couple of years? While he hasn't been seen on the big screen since Neill Blomkamp's Elysium, Luna was busy directing Michael Pena in the Cesar Chavez biopic. He also voiced one of the lead characters in the remarkable animated film, The Book of Life.  For his comeback in front of the camera he's definitely not starting small, as Luna has just joined the cast of Star Wars: Rogue One.

According to Variety, Luna has taken a lead role in the Star Wars Anthology film, joining the previously cast Felicity Jones. They're also confirming Riz Ahmed for a role as a rebel fighter alongside Jones and Luna. Ben Mendelsohn, who has been playing it close to the vest on his casting, is on board as the film's villain. Nothing on The Hunger Games' Sam Claflin, who was rumored at the same time as Ahmed, but since this is expected to be a large ensemble there may still be a place for him. Set just prior to the events of Episode IV: A New Hope, the story centers on the rebels' attempts to steal the Death Star plans.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, Star Wars: Rogue One opens December 16th 2016.
