Will Ferrell to Star in Johnny Depp-Produced Comedy 'Tom's Dad'

Will Ferrell showed a little bit of his fatherly side at the tail end of last year's The Lego Movie, and many would say it was one of the film's most affecting moments. Of course, he then followed that up with Get Hard which most found totally offensive, so there's that. A new deal has been struck at Cannes that will find Farrell back in father-mode for a new comedy from Oscar-nominated Chocolat director, Lasse Hallstrom.

Ferrell will star in Tom's Dad in the '60s-set comedy which centers on Arthur, a struggling Nevada nightclub owner who must reconnect with his estranged 12-year-old son when his ex-wife leaves on a three week trip. Martin Casella and Keith Clarke worked on the screenplay, with Johnny Depp one of the film's producers.

Hallstrom last directed Helen Mirren in The Hundred-Foot Journey. Ferrell is currently filming his return a Mugatu in Zoolander 2. [Deadline]
