Jason Segel in Talks for 'Collateral Beauty' with Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara
We may always think of Jason Segel as a comedy actor first, but lately he's been setting down a different path. At Sundance he earned strong reviews for a dramatic turn in James Ponsoldt's The End of the Tour, showing a greater range than many knew he had. Now he's eying a role in Collateral Beauty, an indie drama from red-hot Me and Earl and the Dying Girl director, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.
According to Variety, Segel is in the early stages of joining the film which already has Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara set to star. Penned by Allan Loeb, the story centers on “a New York advertising executive who experiences a deep personal tragedy. When his colleagues devise an unconventional plan to break him out of his depression, the plan works, but not in a way that anyone imagined.”
Filming is being set for this fall assuming everything comes together. Segel's The End of the Tour opens next month, and after that he's co-directing Lego spinoff The Billion Brick Race.
