Check Out 11-Minutes of The Muppets' New TV Series

While there may have been a great deal of hubbub about 2011's The Muppets signaling a comeback for Jim Henson's beloved characters, the folks at Disney never really capitalized on it. Sure, last year's sequel Muppets Most Wanted was released but it failed to catch on as the prior film did. So the Mouse House, never one to waste a recognizable brand, decided to take Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gary, and the rest to TV, and now we have a look at their new series.

The Muppets held a well-attended panel at Comic-Con where an 11-minute "first look" presentation was shown, and basically it's the pitch that got the series a green light on ABC. Featuring celebrity cameos from Topher Grace (who is dating Miss Piggy) and Elizabeth Banks, the series is done mockumentary style, similar to The Office, and follows Kermit as he once again tries to put the band back together. And this version of The Muppets will be geared for adults, too, so don't expect this one to be all fits and giggles.

The Muppets hits ABC on September 22nd. Here's the show synopsis followed by the footage and the full Comic-Con panel.

The Muppets return to primetime with a contemporary, documentary-style show. For the first time ever, a series will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, breakups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires. This is a more adult Muppet show, for “kids” of all ages.

Bill Prady (“The Big Bang Theory”) and Bob Kushell (“Anger Management”) are co-writers and executive producers. Randall Einhorn (“Wilfred”), Bill Barretta, Debbie McClellan and Kyle Laughlin are also executive producers. “The Muppets” is produced by ABC Studios and The Muppets Studio.
