I've been trying to think of a more under-utilized pop culture icon than Ashley "Ash" Williams, better known as the too cool for school hero of the Evil Dead movies, honestly I can't think of one. Finally, FINALLY, Hollywood's favorite chin, Bruce Campbell, gets his revival (no, that half-second cameo during the credits of the remake doesn't count) in a new series coming to Starz this Halloween. The San Diego Comic-Con Gods have seen fit to bless us with the first trailer for the series and DAMN does it hit every single mark.
I don't see how a fan could find fault in this trailer, Campbell hasn't lost a step as Ash, metaphorically speaking, physically speaking he's lost a few and that's totally addressed in the trailer. From the ultra-gore, to the classic line delivery of things like "Groovy" and "Come Get Some" to his ability to harness the seriousness of a college professor when talking about the Necromicon Ex Mortis and the ensuing story of it's discovery to his Value Stop (I guess S-Mart was a casualty of the 2008 financial crisis) co-workers.
The only thing that scares me about this series is that the last time I was this excited for a TV revival of a classic movie it was the From Dusk Till Dawn series which I just couldn't get into despite a pretty awesome trailer. Still, that show is more playing pretender to the characters made classic by George freakin' Clooney and Quentin Tarantino...this time we got the real deal in Bruce Campbell. The only thing that could make this trailer better would be a hint that the season arc, and ensuing finale would lead us to Ash Vs. Freddy Vs Jason. That ladies and gentleman would be nirvana for this nerd, that's not a made up thing by the way, google it, it was a pretty rad graphic novel and would've made alot of sense as a film.
Enough jabber-jawing, check out the trailer below and let us know what you think . Ash Versus Evil Dead premiers this Halloween on Starz!
