Paul Thomas Anderson to Write and Possibly Direct Robert Downey Jr.'s 'Pinocchio' Film

As Tony Stark we've seen Robert Downey Jr. capable of building just about anything he puts his mind to. However in reality, Downey has had trouble putting together his live-action Pinocchio film. The project has been in the works for years and always with the goal of luring big name talent. Tim Burton and Ben Stiller have circled the Warner Bros. project at different stages, but it still failed to get off the ground. So what's Downey's plan now? How about calling on Paul Thomas Anderson?

According to a story at THR, the Boogie Nights and Inherent Vice director will rewrite Michael Mitnick's Pinocchio screenplay with an eye towards directing, as well. Downey will be starring, of course, and at one time it looked as if he would play both Gepetto and Pinocchio. Whether that's true or not isn't clear, but this finally gives Downey and Phoenix, good friends who have been trying to work together for awhile, a chance to finally collaborate.

Of all the moves Anderson could have made following Inherent Vice, this is probably the least expected. Consider my mind blown.
