Superman's Role Reduced in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'?

Follow the trend lines coming out of Warner Bros. about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and it looks as if Ben Affleck is reaping high praise while Henry Cavill is kind of left in the background. That's been reflected by rumors about their characters' respective franchises. Ben Affleck has been signed on to write, direct, and star in a solo Batman movie, possibly expanding into a trilogy. At the same time, there are reports that a Man of Steel sequel may not happen at all. Now there's even more evidence that Batman is at the forefront of future plans.

According to Heroic Hollywood, Warner Bros. execs want to see more Batman and less Superman in 'Batman v Superman'. There are multiple reasons why this could be the case that have nothing to do with Cavill's performance. For instance, Affleck is obviously a much bigger star and a fixture at the studio, having delivered an Oscar-winning film in Argo for them. It's also become clear that Batman is the centerpiece of this DC cinematic universe more than Superman as he's meant to have some part to play in Suicide Squad, and obviously both Justice League movies.

None of these are a knock against Cavill, who has received generally good reviews for his performances in Man of Steel and most recently The Man from UNCLE. What will be interesting is how this is reflected in the movie itself as Superman's storyline is what inspires Batman's. Assuming this rumor is true, Zack Snyder may be in the editing booth hammering this out until close to the film's release on March 25th 2016.
