Channing Tatum Wants Doug Liman to Direct 'Gambit'
20th Century Fox's Gambit film is due to hit theaters one year from now, and yet production has yet to even begin. It's a little difficult for any shooting to take place on the X-Men spinoff without a director, and there hasn't been one since Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) dropped out last month. With time running out, star Channing Tatum has apparently taken the initiative by approaching Edge of Tomorrow director, Doug Liman.
Deadline says Liman the "inside track" to direct the film on the mutant thief, while The Wrap's Jeff Sneider backs up their story. Tatum has been attached since the beginning, and recently was joined by Lea Seydoux (Spectre) in the role of Gambit's lover, Bella Donna, so it's no surprise he's taking matters into his own hands. That said, he may have a tough time convincing Liman since he's also eyeing a reunion with Tom Cruise for Edge of Tomorrow 2 and the sci-fi flick, Luna Park.
Whatever happens it needs to happen soon if Gambit is going to hit the October 7th 2016 release date.
