Hollywood tends to ignore older-skewing movies, and yet they spend an inordinate amount of time trying to convince us that old people can be just as raunchy and irresponsible as everyone else. A couple of years ago the Jackass gang brought us Bad Grandpa, and now Robert De Niro stars in Dirty Grandpa, a film that could be its spiritual cousin in debauchery.
De Niro teams up with Zac Efron in the R-rated road trip comedy, which centers on an uptight young man who is tricked into driving his wildly inappropriate grandpa to Dayton Beach during Spring Break. And of course along the way he gets some grandfatherly advice about making sure he's marrying the right woman. Even if she is the right one, that's no excuse not to sew some wild oats with every hot spring breaker they encounter.
What's interesting about the trailer is the reversal of roles with Efron (and a very buttoned-up Hough) as the straight arrows and De Niro as the one who is totally off the chain.
Directed by Dan Mazer with Aubrey Plaza, Dermot Mulroney, Zoey Deutch, and Jason Mantzoukas co-starring, Dirty Grandpa opens on January 22nd 2016.
