Marvel's 'Black Panther' Lands 'Creed' and 'Fruitvale Station' Director Ryan Coogler

Draw up a wish list of directors for Marvel's Black Panther movie and sure to be on that list is Fruitvale Station and Creed director, Ryan Coogler. His first two films have catapulted him into the awards discussion and established him as one of today's top young directors, and clearly Marvel agrees because they want him for the hero's first solo movie.

A story at Birth.Movies.Death says that Coogler is in talks to direct Black Panther, but this should be taken with some caution. Selma's Ava DuVernay had been sought for the job previously but she pulled out of the running due to creative differences. Also in the mix was F. Gary Gray but he decided to direct Fast & Furious 8 instead.

While this would obviously be Coogler's biggest film, Creed has gone a long way in making him   Chadwick Boseman will debut as Black Panther in next year's Captain America: Civil War, before the solo movie arrives on February 16, 2018.
