Young Han Solo Finalists Include Jack Reynor, Taron Egerton, And Alden Ehrenreich
Obviously, Harrison Ford has shown a willingness to revisit the characters he's famous for, but the first Han Solo movie won't feature him at all. Instead it will be a spinoff chronicling the rogue's earliest adventures, and Disney has been interviewing literally thousands of actors for the part. Recently that extensive list was narrowed down to less than a dozen, but now the number of contenders has been reduced to three.
According to THR, the finalists for the Han Solo role are Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Reynor, and Taron Egerton, although there's the possibility more names could be in the mix. All three actors have experience in major productions, and even franchises. Ehrenreich was last seen in the Coen Brothers' Hail, Caesar! and starred in the failed franchise-starter, Beautiful Creatures. Reynor was part of Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction, while Egerton is red-hot right now after Kingsman: The Secret Service and the upcoming Robin Hood: Origins. The potential problem with Egerton is that he's become so in-demand that he may not have time, especially with 20th Century Fox gearing up a 'Kingsman' sequel.
Of the three, I'd say Ehrenreich is the most polished actor, having also done bang-up work on Tetro, Stoker, and Blue Jasmine. But his look doesn't scream "Han Solo", while Reynor and Egerton may be better physical fits. Thoughts?
Phil Lord and Chris Miller's Han Solo (and Chewbacca) spinoff is set to hit on May 25th 2018.
