'Captain Marvel' May Have Been Confirmed For 'Avengers: Infinity War'

Is it finally time for the ladies of Marvel to start taking over? A Black Widow film finally appears to be headed in the right direction if we're to believe what Kevin Feige had to say. But what about Captain Marvel? First she was expected to appear in The Avengers, then Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it looks like Carol Danvers will actually make her debut in the first 'Infinity War' movie.

The press tour for Captain America: Civil War is going on right now and that means the Russo Brothers are getting peppered with questions (including some by me) about everything related to the MCU. During a recent Q&A (via Comicbook.com) the sibling filmmakers accidentally mentioned Captain Marvel as one of the characters to appear in 'Infinity War'. They went on to crack a joke about it afterwards, referring to her as "Captain Barvel", but their intent was clear. We can expect to see Captain Marvel in some capacity, serving as a lead-in to her standalone movie on March 8th 2019.

An actress to take the role has yet to be found although recent rumors suggest an announcement could come soon. The most recent buzz is that a director and star with the same first name are favored to land the gig. Rebecca Fergusion, Ronda Rousey, and Emily Blunt are among the contenders to suit up as the powerful heroine and key member of the Avengers.

The Russos kept chatting up 'Infinity War' (did anybody ask them anything about 'Civil War' or was that only me?), revealing to Deadline that they've already begun work on both movies, which we know are about to get new titles...

“We already started them, a couple months ago,” said Joe Russo. “We had to. We start shooting in November, two movies back to back. So we need two scripts ASAP, and we probably started working on them six months ago.”

Let's hope the pressure of shooting two films on a tight schedule isn't too much for the Russos to handle. The first 'Infinity War' film arrives on May 4th 2018, the second a year later.
