Michael Bay jettisons 3-D cameras in Transformers 3 shoot

Looks like Michael Bay got fed up with the heavy 3-D cameras preventing him from the 360 degree rotational shots he's known for, as Screenrant reports that he gave up on the technique part way through filming Transformers 3. It's expected that he will use the dreaded post-production technique, instead.

Bay has always expressed his dislike for the added dimension, even once claiming that his films would never be in the format. He changed his mind at the studio's request, using the same cams used to shoot James Cameron's Avatar, but clearly that hasn't changed his opinion one bit.

This doesn't shock me one bit. Bay is known for his wild, fast paced shooting style. Not exactly conducive to the heavy 3-D cameras he'd be forced to utilize. One of my biggest complaints with the Transformers flicks so far has been that when the robots are brawling, the effect gets a little sloppy and it becomes hard to tell what is going on. We've seen in Clash of the Titans and some other films that using 3-D post conversion can be extremely blurry. This could turn out to be a disastrous combination.
