About two weeks ago, a rumor was circulated that the long speculated female villain to smack around Superman in Man of Steel would be Faora, and not Ursa as many(including myself) had thought. Now today Variety confirms that Faora will indeed be in Zack Snyder's film, and that little known German actress Antje Traue will portray her.
Traue most recently was featured in the super boring 2009 sci-fi flick, Pandorum
. There she got to star alongside Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster, but obviously this is the biggest project of her decade long career. This version of Faora won't be like the original, Pre-Crisis(I'm speaking geek now) one as we thought. She'll be a later version introduced in Action Comics #779 as a Russian aide to General Zod in his running of the fictional nation of Pokolistan. Zod will be portrayed by Michael Shannon, and the fact that they're using this version of Faora, who was an orphan metahuman, means that Zod and she will likely not be Kryptonian at all, but humans affected by Kryptonite radiation. In the comics she had the ability to disrupt molecular bonds.
There were two other metahumans that aided Zod in that storyline, Ignition and Kancer. I'll be curious to see if they're going to be in the film as well.
Man of Steel will reportedly open in December 2012.
