Trailer Time: Casa de mi Padre, Will Ferrell's Spanish-language comedy

Could Armando Alvarez be the next great Will Ferrell character? If this trailer for Casa de mi Padre is any indication, I'm saying Hell yes! The film is a Spanish-language comedy set in the style of the wildly melodramatic telenovellas you'd see on channels like Univision. The film was directed by Matt Piedmont(Saturday Night Live) and also stars Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal of Y tu mama tambien fame. When I wasn't busy wiping away tears of laughter, the first thing I thought was just how well Ferrell speaks the language. He's a friggin' natural. Check out the film's plot...

Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna), shows up with his new fiancĂ©, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).

There's no release date for the film just yet, as I'm sure there's going to be some serious discussion on just how to market it. Ferrell is the main draw, but his presence alone isn't enough to ensure strong box office. Add subtitles into the mix and suddenly this film doesn't seem like such a sure thing. But for now just watch the trailer and enjoy the zaniness...
