New poster for '2 Days in New York', starring Julie Delpy and Chris Rock

Despite my deep love for Julie Delpy and everything she says and does, it took me a long time to finally catch up with 2 Days in Paris. It had nothing to do with her, just my continuing dislike for Adam Goldberg. Yet he's actually not that bad in the film, and Delpy proved herself to be a filmmaker working along the same lines as her Before Sunset colleague, Richard Linklater, with a splash of Woody Allen neuroses thrown in for good measure. The sequel, 2 Days in New York, thankfully jettisons Goldberg in favor of Chris Rock, but the same relationship craziness reigns.

Taking place not long after the end of the last film, 2 Days in New York has Marion(Delpy) having moved to the city with her child and living with a new boyfriend, a radio DJ named Mingus(Rock). While comfortable with each other at this point, they find their relationship tested by a visit from Marion's father, sister, and an ex-boyfriend. The clips we've seen have been a hilarious combination of family drama and culture clash comedy, which makes me even madder that I missed the film at Sundance.

With the theatrical release set for August 10th, and a VOD release on July 6th, the official U.S. poster has been unveiled. Chris Rock is going to be the big draw for most people who may have never heard of Delpy or 2 Days in Paris, so putting him opposite her on the poster was a smart move.  Hey, whatever gets her name out there so she can keep making movies is okay with me.
