Trailer Time: 'The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki', directed by Mamoru Hosada

For anime fans, the release of a new film by Mamoru Hosada has to be close to rivaling that of Hayao Miyazaki. It certainly is for me. Hosada quickly established himself as a talent of equal ability with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, followed up by the sprawling Summer Wars. Now as we're about a month away from the release of his latest film, The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki, a brand new trailer has arrived.

The story follows Hana, a 19-year old college student who falls in love with a wolf man, eventually bearing him a son and daughter they name Ame and Yuki. The two children earn many of their father's traits, including the ability to shift into a werewolf. When the man she loves suddenly dies, Hana picks up and moves her family to an isolated, rural town away from society's prying eyes.

The film just had its world premier in Paris earlier this week, and the buzz has been strong. Just as with Hosada's other work, we'll probably see a very limited run here in the States, followed up by a quick DVD/Blu-Ray release. The footage is gorgeous, and the animation is slightly more reserved than we've seen from Hosada in the past. Then again, this is a much quieter story than the others, so it makes sense. The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki opens next month in Japan. Check out the trailer below....[ANN]
