Jeff Daniels says 'Dumb and Dumber' sequel still happening

While I don't understand why anybody would want to revisit the vastly overrated Dumb and Dumber(haven't we been down that road already?), it's clear that the Farrelly Brothers are anxious for the return of their moronic heroes. Up until a few months ago, it seemed as if stars Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey were gung-ho for it, but then out of nowhere Carrey up and left the project out of a perceived lack of enthusiasm by Warner Brothers. Can't really blame them, considering the Farrelly's have served up two dogs in a row with The Three Stooges and Hall Pass.

But now Daniels, who you'd think would be happy starring in Rian Johnson's Looper and HBO's The Newsroom, has given hope to those who thought the film was dead. Talking to Crave Online, he says the sequel, rumored to be titled Dumb and Dumber To, is still happening and that Carrey still wants to be a part of it....

Daniels: “Jim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrellys want to do it. They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they aren’t trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do ‘Newsroom’ in November. So they’re going, ‘Why don’t we just do it right? Let’s get everybody organized to go next May or June.’ If everything works out on the business side, that’s what we’ll do but I think there’s more hope than ever.”

"I think Jim just got frustrated and I completely got it. I was frustrated too. We thought it was in pretty good shape. The studio and others wanted some more work done it. The Farrellys wanted more work done on it so they got working on it and I think last week they decided to push the shooting of it to next year, possibly because I wasn’t going to move ‘The Newsroom.'"

So Carrey's issue wasn't that the studio was showing too little support, it was that they wanted it to be touched up? Was it moving too slowly? I suppose, if you're someone who is actually looking forward to it, pushing the start date back to next spring to get the script just right must sound pretty good. Me, I'd be happy to see the whole thing go away, and Carrey getting back to making original comedies again.
