'Prometheus' sequel could hit theaters in 2014, 2015
Yup, this is happening. Thanks to an international box office haul of $303 million, Ridley Scott's stop-pretending-it's-not-a-prequel Prometheus will be getting a sequel, according to what Fox executive Emma Watts told The Hollywood Reporter today. The film didn't do gangbusters - it had a budget of about $130 million, and countless more in marketing, surely - but it's open-ended conclusion leaves a few possibilities for another installment. The film should hit theaters in 2014 or 2015, and Scott will probably return. Personally, I was looking forward to Prometheus like none other and ultimately found it profoundly disappointing ... but that's how it goes, I guess.
So yeah, we can look forward to more Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace; both are signed for the sequel. Fassbender's idolization of Lawrence of Arabia was one of the best parts of Prometheus, so maybe they can do more with that in the sequel.
And what else is getting a sequel, according to THR? Universal is considering another Snow White and the Huntsman, Ted and American Pie; Sony another Amazing Spider-Man, Men In Black and 21 Jump Street; Disney a whole slew of Marvel flicks, like sequels to The Avengers, Captain America and Thor; and Warner Bros. may possibly revamp another Batman series and is also thinking about Magic Mike 2 - basically the best news I've heard, ever. And that includes if world peace was somehow announced five minutes ago and I missed it because I was too busy thinking about Channing Tatum writhing around to Ginuwine's "Pony."
