With Gone Baby Gone and The Town, Ben Affleck has established himself as Warner Bros. go-to guy for gritty, street level dramas. His third directorial effort, the hostage thriller Argo, takes him onto the global stage for a retelling of one of the strangest chapters of the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
While many may understand the film is ultimately about the plan to rescue American diplomats from a Canadian embassy in Iran, not everyone realizes just how far out the particulars were. Ben Affleck stars as CIA agent Tony Mendez who comes up with the idea to create a fake movie production and convince the Iranians the hostages are actually part of the set. It was just crazy enough to work, and three new character posters introduce us to many of the principle players in the complicated scheme. Affleck gets his own posters, of course, followed by John Goodman as Hollywood make-up artist John Chambers, and Alan Arkin as producer Lester Siegel.
Argo opens on October 12th.
