After years of fits, starts, and rumors of death, Don Cheadle's dream directorial project about legendary jazz musician Miles Davis finally seems to be coming together. Last year Antoine Fuqua was rumored to be stepping in to direct, but the latest report from ScreenDaily has him ready to make his debut behind the camera. Cheadle, who is ready to star as Davis, is also beginning to assemble an impressive group of co-stars.
Ewan McGregor and Zoe Saldana are in talks to join the film, newly titled Kill the Trumpet Player. This one's still a long ways off as financing will be sought at the American Film Market next month, but securing McGregor and Saldana would go a long way in landing investors.
So don't get too excited just yet. We've been teased by the prospect of this film happening before with nothing to show for it, but there's no doubt that Cheadle has the passion to to give Davis the big screen treatment his life deserves.
