Fede Alvarez Reveals Sam Raimi to Direct 'Army of Darkness 2'; Bruce Campbell to Return

A sequel to Sam Raimi's Army of Darkness has been hoped for and talked about by fans for so long that it was hard to take seriously earlier this year when Sam Raimi seemed to confirm it would finally happen. The film would follow some sort of complicated path that would ultimately crossover with the recent Evil Dead remake, but the main questions left unresolved were if Raimi himself would direct it, and if Bruce Campbell would be back as Ash Williams. Now we have answers to both, and fans are sure to be very happy.

First off, Campbell hit Wizard World Nashville over the weekend and, as he's probably quite accustomed, was asked if he would be in the sequel. After joking a little about Ash's advanced age, he would give the assembled base exactly what they were hoping for by replying "Alright sir, the answer is yes."

Meanwhile Fede Alvarez, director of the most recent Evil Dead film, tweeted to a questioning fan that it will be Sam Raimi directing Army of Darkness 2, rather than merely serving as a producer. Alvarez has been pretty close to Raimi lately so he should be a believable source of information, but to be honest it's probably best to wait until there's some hard confirmation before getting too excited.
