Former Doctor Who Matt Smith Rumored for 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

Now that the first character has been confirmed for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII, it's time to get back to some good ol' Internet scuttlebutt. A rumor surfacing at Bleeding Cool has nerd hero and ex-Doctor Who Matt Smith having met someone at Lucasfilm about....something. As the story notes, it could have been for "an audition, a screen test or just a chat", which means it may have been something as simple as a lunch meeting.

The story doesn't even seem certain if Smith met with Abrams or George Lucas, so obviously this is one to take with a pinch of salt. But if Smith were to come aboard, even if it's in a behind-the-scenes capacity, it would have geek heads exploding. Maybe he'll be the first to travel in both the TARDIS and the Millennium Falcon?

Oh, and one last thing which also might mean nothing. Jason Flyming, who many thought had confirmed Matthew Vaughn for the Star Wars directing job some months ago (how'd that work out?), has tweeted a page from his personal copy of the script, which...is basically being used as a coaster. Hopefully that's not a commentary on how good it is. Obviously it means that Flyming is reading for a part, which doesn't mean a darn thing since everyone is Hollywood seems to be.

Star Wars: Episode VII arrives on December 18th 2015.
