First Trailer for Chilean Mining Disaster Drama 'The 33' with Antonio Banderas and Juliette Binoche
Even before the 33 victims of the 2010 Chilean mining disaster had been rescued, a feature film project was already in the works. While that may sound a bit slimy, worrying more about potential profits than the lives of actual human beings, that is the unfortunate nature of the business nowadays. Still, the film, which has been titled The 33, managed to gather a strong cast of actors who will try to make the miners' story resonate further than it already has, and now we're getting a look at the trailer.
Directed by Mexican filmmaker Patricia Riggen (Under the Same Moon, Girl in Progress), the film stars Juliette Binoche, Jacob Vargas, Lou Diamond Phillips, Rodrigo Santoro, and Antonio Banderas as "Super" Mario Sepulveda, the uplifting drama recounts the miners' heroism in the face of tragedy and the strength they gained from those who hoped for their safe return.
The 33 has yet to gain a US date but will open in Chile on August 8th.
