Jack Black Goes Back to School in First Trailer for 'The D Train'
Nobody wants to be the biggest loser at the high school reunion. It's a fear that has been the subject of many a reunion comedy (Romy and Michelle chief among them) because it's something most people can easily relate to. It's natural to compare our life achievements with those of our peers, and it may be just as natural to fudge the truth a little bit. In The D Train, a comedy which caught a lot of strong buzz at Sundance, Jack Black plays a guy who lets a little lie spin madly out of control.
Also starring James Marsden, Kathryn Hahn, Jeffrey Tambor, and Mike White, the film was written and directed by Jarrad Paul (a regular on Seinfeld back in the day) and Andrew Mogel. Here's the official synopsis:
All his life, Dan Landsman (Jack Black) has never been the cool guy. That’s about to change – if he can convince Oliver Lawless (Marsden), the most popular guy from his high school who’s now the face of a national Banana Boat ad campaign, to show up with him to their class reunion. A man on a mission, Dan travels from Pittsburgh to LA and spins a web of lies to recruit Lawless. But he gets more than he bargains for as the unpredictable Lawless proceeds to take over his home, career, and entire life. Showcasing Jack Black and James Marden's most outrageous performances to date, THE D TRAIN serves up the question: how far would you go to be popular?
Reviews were strong out of Park City with our own Mae Abdulbaki calling it "a familiar story told in a fresh way. It's about growing up, letting go, and about deceiving appearances." You can ride The D Train when it opens on May 8th.
