Box Office: 'Furious 7' Stays Ahead at #1, 'Paul Blart' Secures $24M

1. Furious 7- $29M/$294M
Furious 7 raced past the $1B mark a few days ago, making it the first film in Universal's history ever to do so. And do think, they've got Vin Diesel to thank for that.
2. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2- $24M
Nobody wanted it, nobody asked for it, but audiences showed up for Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. The Kevin James comedy, a sequel to the hit 2009 film that grossed $180M, opened with a solid $24M over the weekend. Apparently, that six year wait between movies didn't deter anybody, and the family-friendly nature of the series probably doesn't hurt. So don't be surprised if Sony moves a bit faster on the inevitable Paul Blart 3: Die Harder or whatever it will be called.
3. Unfriended- $16M
The geniuses over at Blumhouse are patting themselves on the back yet again for another micro-budget horror hit. Unfriended, the $1M teen-horror set entirely during a Skype video chat, grossed $16M. I know when I was at the theater on Friday night (enduring the awful Child 44) there were lines of anxious teens buying tickets for Unfriended. The marketing was geared directly towards them and obviously they must have done something right. So now where does a sequel go? Maybe a horror set during a Google Hangout?
4. Home- $10.3M/$142.5M
5. The Longest Ride- $6.8M/$23.6M
6. Get Hard- $4.8M/$78.2M
7. Monkey Kingdom- $4.7M
Disney's latest animal doc, Monkey Kingdom, opened with $4.7M, which is about par for the course for these kinds of films. It's actually a tad low compared to previous entries, but the DisneyNature banner has never really been about producing blockbusters.
8. Woman in Gold- $4.4M/$15.7M
9. The Divergent Series: Insurgent- $4.1M/$120.6M
10. Cinderella- $3.8M/$186.2M
