Spinoff of Marvel's 'Agents of SHIELD' is In the Works

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD got off to a hot start in season one, thanks largely to the momentum from The Avengers and Iron Man 3, but quickly the ratings tailed off. Fortunately, things have picked up in the second season; the ratings have stabilized and creatively it has really hit a stride post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier with storylines focused on HYDRA and the Inhumans. Things are going well enough that Marvel and Disney may be considering an expansion of the series to include a spinoff on ABC.

The report surfaced at EW who say show producer Jeffrey Bell and writer Paul Zbyszewski are on board for the new series, although details remain scarce. While there won't be a setup episode or anything like that, it will supposedly be very obvious by the end of the season what the new show will be about. So what does that mean? A series centered on J. August Richards' Deathlok character? Or could there be some kind of Inhumans tie-in show leading up to the 2019 film? My guess is we'll see a further fracturing of SHIELD, leading to the creation of two totally separate teams, one led by Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson, the other by Edward James Olmos' Commander Robert Gonzalez.  Or perhaps it will be a series centered totally on Bobbi Chase aka Mockingbird, played by Adrianne Palicki?

This is all just speculation as nothing is confirmed at this point and it really depends whether Agents of SHIELD is renewed for another season. If so, we could see the spinoff arrive in the fall or as a mid-season replacement next year.
