While X-Men: Apocalypse will narrow its focus to the X-Men: First Class team this time, we're seeing the mutant universe expanded in other ways. The film will reintroduce younger versions of classic characters like Cyclops, Storm, and Jean Grey; there's a Deadpool film with Ryan Reynolds, and a recently announced New Mutants movie directed by Josh Boone. And now we're seeing Bryan Singer possibly begin the process of tying all of these projects together.
Singer took to his Instagram account and revealed the mutant Morlock known as Caliban will be in the film. He captioned the image "Shooting Caliban's place of "business" #Xmen#XMenApocalypse". But does this mean the entire group of underground outcast mutants known as the Morlocks will appear? Who will play him? Or will he be a totally CGI creation? While Singer doesn't say one way or another, we do know that Deadpool has Gina Carano playing Angel Dust, a fellow Morlock. Caliban's mutant power gives him the ability to track other mutants, a talent which made him irresistible to Apocalypse, who transformed him into one of his Horsemen. Caliban has close ties to many members of the New Mutants, and eventually becomes a member of X-Force, another team rumored to have a film in the works.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27th 2016.
