'Jonny Quest' Live-Action Film Lands Robert Rodriguez as Director

For years Warner Bros. has been trying to mount a live-action film based on Hanna-Barbera's 1960s adventure cartoon, Jonny Quest, with little to no success. Last we heard Peter Segal (50 First Dates) was attached to direct it, with Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson eying the lead roles. Obviously, nothing came of that, but now the project has been revived with the unexpected addition of Robert Rodriguez as director.

Rodriguez, who has been busy with Machete and Sin City flicks as well as the launch of his (awesome) El Rey Network, will co-write and direct Jonny Quest, making this his first studio project in years. Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lone Ranger) will help in fashioning out the screenplay.

While Rodriguez's violent grindhouse films are what he's mainly known for, let's not forget he also created the Spy Kids franchise. So he knows how to make action-packed fare for the kiddies, too.
