Hasbro and Paramount Developing a Beyblade Live-Action Film
Through the G.I. Joe and Transformers films the relationship between Paramount and Hasbro has been extremely lucrative. Paramount makes $1B-grossing movies, and Hasbro sells a crapload of toys to kids. While that relationship is growing with the expanded Transformers franchise being developed, the partnership is extending to another toy property, Beyblade, which is next up for a live-action film.
According to Deadline, a film based on the "explosive spinning tops" of Beyblade is in the works, although no talent has been announced other than producer Mary Parent. Known as Explosive Shoot Beyblade in Japan, the toy line was created in 2000 and licensed to Hasbro in 2001, but it was the manga series about a group of kids who form a Beyblade team known as the Bladebreakers that truly popularized the toy line. The franchise has grown to include an anime series and a couple of animated spinoffs.
So add this to the growing list of Hasbro toys and board games that have hit the big screen, a list which includes Ouija and Battleship, so they can't all be winners. The next one will be Monster Trucks, which should hit theaters next year.
