First Trailer for Oliver Stone's 'Snowden' Shows the U.S. in Dire Distress
One thing that was obvious from the moment Edward Snowden leaked a bunch of classified national security documents, and it was that Hollywood would come running to tell his story. His story has already been told in Oscar-winning fashion in the amazing documentary, Citizenfour, but of course we all knew it was only a matter of time before Oliver Stone got his hands on such a hot-button topic. And now the first trailer for his film Snowden is here and Stone seems to be back in very comfortable political territory again after some time away.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt takes on the role of Snowden, the CIA contractor who leaked the classified NSA documents and sparked a national conversation about privacy rights and government overreach in the name of security. This teaser doesn't show much, offering no looks at the cast at all, but the image of the upside down American flag, a national symbol of dire distress, is as powerful as anything else Stone could have shown.
Also starring Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Nicolas Cage, Zachary Quinto, Scott Eastwood, Timothy Olyphant, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson, and Keith Stanfield, Snowden opens on Christmas Day.
