'Hotel Transylvania' Animated Series in the Works

With Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, and more making the move from hit features to the small screen, it's no surprise the same is happening for Hotel Transylvania. Sony Pictures Animation has announced that an animated series is in the works based on the Adam Sandler-voiced film which earned $358M in 2012. A sequel, Hotel Transylvania 2, opens this fall.

Set for a release in 2017, the new series will focus on Dracula's teenage daughter, Mavis, and her friends. Selena Gomez voices her in the movies but no casting has been announced for the TV series, so she may not return. It's also unclear if Sandler, Kevin James, or any of the other celebrity voice cast will take part.

Hotel Transylvania 2 opens September 25th, and it will be interesting to see if the film's box office affects production on the new show. While doubtful, if the movie flops would the series still go forward? [TheWrap]
