Richard Linklater may direct 'The Rosie Project'; 'That's What I'm Talking About' set for Spring 2016

It took more than a decade for Richard Linklater to finish up on Boyhood, but the wait was definitely worth it. Not only was the indie drama a critical darling but it managed to gain mainstream traction, performing very well at the box office as a result. The wait for Linklater's next film won't be quite so long, as he's already completed his spiritual follow-up to Dazed and Confused, titled That's what I'm Talking About, and the film now has a release date.

Paramount has set the film for April 15th 2016, taking the spot vacated by Bad Moms, the comedy Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann recently exited. Not much is known about the plot except that it will follow a young man's college experiences in 1980. The cast will feature a relatively unknown group led by Zoey Deutch (who was great in Vampire Academy) Tyler Hoechlin, Wyatt Russell, Ryan Guzman, Will Brittain, and Glen Powell.

Meanwhile, Linklater is also the top choice to direct Sony's adaptation of The Rosie Project, which will star Jennifer Lawrence. Phil Lord and Chris Miller had been attached initially, but they dropped out to direct a future Star Wars Anthology film.

Penned by Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter, the duo behind The Spectacular Now, The Fault in our Stars, and Paper Towns, the rom-com centers on a scientist who believes he's created the formula to find the perfect wife, only to fall for a woman who has all of the qualities he specifically excluded. It sounds like the kind of film that would be easy for Linklater to take on, and the opportunity to see him work with Lawrence is intriguing. [Deadline]
