Dwayne Johnson to Star in Disney Adventure, 'Jungle Cruise'

Wherever Dwayne Johnson goes the crowds go absolutely nuts, but apparently he blew the roof off Disney's D23 Expo when he showed up for the animated musical, Moana. And when he was done melting women's hearts and making their men feel inferior, Johnson was busy striking deals for yet another potential Disney blockbuster: Jungle Cruise.

According to THR, Johnson will star in Jungle Cruise, which is based on the Disney Adventureland theme park attraction. So they obviously have hopes it will turn out similar to Pirates of the Caribbean rather than Tomorrowland. John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Focus, Crazy Stupid Love) will write the screenplay although they aren't expected to direct it at this time. When Disney last tried to set sail on the project it was to star Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, which goes to show just how long it has been in development.

The plan is to harken back to classic period adventure  movies like 1951's The African Queen, which starred Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. If it turns out anything like the popular ride, Johnson's on-screen journey will take him down the Nile River and through the Congo, where he'll experience all of the wildlife those areas have to offer. So rack up another possible franchise for Johnson, who is on an unbelievable roll right now.
