How has there not been a movie version of HBO's ornery, foul-mouthed yet strangely Shakespearean Western series, Deadwood? When the series ended in 2006 there was a vocal outcry for a continuation, but HBO instead gave the feature treatment to Sex and the City (twice!) and Entourage. But now we may be getting closer to seeing Calamity Jane, Seth Bullock, and of course Al Swearengen on the silver screen.
HBO has confirmed that "preliminary conversations" have begun to turn David Milch's Deadwood into a movie. It was EW who first cracked the news, followed by a couple of hopeful tweets by series co-star Garrett Dillahunt who really wants to see this happen.

He's not alone. Deadwood has an extremely loyal base of fans, if obviously not enough to keep the show on the air longer than three seasons. There had been talk of two movies that would tie everything up nine years later those films still haven't been done. The show featured a top notch cast that may be hard to wrangle up, including Ian McShane, John Hawkes, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, Kim Dickens, and Robin Weigert.
As a Deadwood die-hard I'm dying for this to happen, but it's been a lot of years already and it will probably be a while longer before there is anything official. Fingers crossed.
