First Official 'Wonder Woman' Synopsis Teases Amazonian Action
Warner Bros. will be bringing their impressive slate of blockbuster franchises to Comic-Con this month, and they're promising to reveal first looks at The Lego Batman Movie, the newly-retitled King Arthur: Legend of the Sword with Charlie Hunnam, Kong: Skull Island, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and of course the DCU. We already know Suicide Squad will be there as part of the final build to the film's August release, but Wonder Woman will be there as well, and now we have an official synopsis for the Gal Gadot-led superhero film.
The film is directed by Patty Jenkins and, in a bit of a surprise, was co-written by Allan Heinberg (a writer on both Marvel and DC comics, plus some TV shows) and Geoff Johns, comics guru and new head of DC Film. Here's the synopsis:
“Wonder Woman” hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Joining Gadot in the international cast are Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder & Allan Heinberg, based on characters from DC Entertainment. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston. The film is produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Richard Suckle, with Rebecca Roven, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers. Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with RatPac-Dune Entertainment, an Atlas Entertainment/Cruel and Unusual production, “Wonder Woman.” The film is scheduled for release on June 2, 2017, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
The film is a prequel set during WWI, so the Wonder Woman we're getting will be a very different from what was seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Hopefully we'll get a teaser trailer or something shortly after the Warner Bros.' Hall H panel wraps up.
