First Poster For Mel Gibson's WWII Drama 'Hacksaw Ridge' With Andrew Garfield

Braveheart, Apocalypto, The Passion of the Christ...you would hardly expect Mel Gibson to direct a movie about a pacifist considering the ultra-violence seen in his prior work, but maybe that's indicative of the changes in his personal and professional life. Gibson may be entering the Oscar race for the first time in years with war film, Hacksaw Ridge, which is not about your typical war hero.

The first poster has been released for the drama which stars Andrew Garfield as Desmond Doss, a conscientious objector who refused to fight in WWII but still served with distinction as a medic, earning the Medal of Honor for his life-saving efforts. Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington, Hugo Weaving, Luke Bracey, Rachel Griffiths, and Teresa Palmer co-star.

Hacksaw Ridge opens November 4th and is clearly being positioned for the awards season. But is the Academy ready to take Gibson seriously again? We'll find out soon enough.
