Watch The First 10 Minutes Of Taika Waititi's Charming 'Hunt For The Wilderpeople'

Unbelievably, Taika Waititi's Hunt for the Wilderpeople was one of my favorite movies of the summer. Unbelievable because Waititi's offbeat sense of humor isn't generally my speed. In fact, nothing he's done in the past, whether it be Flight of the Conchords or Eagle vs. Shark or What We Do In the Shadows, has been my cup of tea. But the New Zealander hit on something funny and true this time, and with the film hitting home release next week you're being given a chance to see why it's worth checking out.

Sony Pictures has released the first 10 minutes from the film, and if you dig them you'll dig the entire thing, trust me. The scene-stealer is Julian Dennison as Ricky, a hip-hop influenced orphan who goes to live with his caring and fearless aunt Bella (Rima Te Wiata) and crusty frontiersman uncle Hec (Sam Neill). Ricky and Hec don't get off to the best start, but when tragedy strikes that could send the kid to another home, they flee into the woods for a grand adventure, sparking a national manhunt.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople hits DVD/Blu-Ray on September 27th and you should consider pre-ordering it here.
