Netflix continues to build its rep as the well-financed alternative to the Hollywood studio machine, and it may be about to score another major production from none other than Jake Gyllenhaal. According to Deadline, Netflix is leading the bidders trying to score the rights to The Helicopter Heist, which has Gyllenhaal attached to star and produce.
The film, which is still in the very early stages, will be based on the upcoming book by Jonas Bonnier about the 2009 Västberga robbery that saw thieves use a stolen Bell 206 Jet Ranger to pull off a $5M heist. Pretty daring stuff and should look awesome on the big screen.
So no director or writer is on board just yet, but it has Gyllenhaal and possibly Netflix, which is a pretty good start. The actor will be seen in Bong Joon-ho's monster film, Okja, which will hit the network exclusively next year.
