New 'Transformers' Animated Movie In The Works, But...

Michael Bay's five live-action Transformers movies will be the only version of the "Robots in Disguise" that many people know. To me that's pretty sad. While those films have grossed more than $4B worldwide, ask a longtime fan and they'll tell you the definitive Transformers movie remains 1986' animated Transformers: The Movie. It's been a long wait for there to be another one on the big screen, but Hasbro has confirmed it is happening. However, one detail could spoil the whole thing for a big group of fans.

Hasbro confirmed the news today at an investor event, adding Transformers to other animated projects such as My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Stretch Armstrong. After the first Transformers movie they will then move into an annual release pattern similar to how Disney does with Star Wars.

The catch? These movies will be set within the current universe created by Michael Bay. Whomp whomp. So we won't get the cool Hot Rod, we'll get the Pepe Le Pew version of Hot Rod seen in Transformers: The Last Knight. We won't get cool, menacing Soundwave, we'll get whatever that thing calling itself Soundwave was in Bay's flicks.

With The Last Knight earning roughly half of what the previous two movies earned, it's clear the franchise needs a facelift. I'm not sure this is the best way to go about it, but then I'm biased. Transformers: The Movie forever!! Bay NEVER put together a scene nearly as awesome as the one below.  [TFW2005]
