Patty Jenkins Takes Over as Director of 'Wonder Woman'
When Michelle MacLaren departed the Wonder Woman film a few days ago, a number of articles, some new some totally reheated, appeared decrying the plight of female directors. Will the big studios ever let a female director break that glass ceiling into the realm of superhero movies? Apparently these people forgot about Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone) but whatever. The presumption was Warner Bros. would go the default route and choose some guy to tell the Amazonian princess' story, but that isn't happening because a woman has been hired for the job and it isn't Angelina Jolie.
According to THR, Patty Jenkins has replaced MacLaren as director of Wonder Woman, which is a pretty interesting hire. Jenkins' claim to fame was directing Charlize Theron to a Best Actress win for Monster, but she's also known for her run-ins with Marvel on Thor: The Dark World. She was to helm that film before leaving due to "creative differences", but hopefully she has a better working relationship with Warner Bros. now. Most recently she's been working on the small screen including an Emmy-nominated run on The Killing.
Wonder Woman's first big-screen film arrives on June 23rd 2017 with Gal Gadot in the title role.
