There have been numerous movies based on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; some sticking to the realm of horror, others aiming for comedy like Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein, and then there are total trainwrecks like the terrible action flick, I Frankenstein. The latest attempt is the Max Landis-penned Victor Frankenstein which is also aiming to have some fun with the classic story, and stars James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe seem more than willing to provide it.
McAvoy and Radcliffe introduce the first trailer for Victor Frankenstein, which is something of a hodge podge of different Frankenstein stories all rolled into one. Directed by Paul McGuigan (Wicker Park), this version is more of a buddy film centering on the relationship between Dr. Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his assistant Igor (Radcliffe), the latter a character who never appeared in Shelley's original book. The story is largely told from Igor's perspective as Frankenstein's friend, protege, guinea pig, and eyewitness to his legendary experiments. Here's the official synopsis:
James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe star in a dynamic and thrilling twist on a legendary tale. Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.
Also starring Jessica Brown Findlay, Victor Frankenstein opens November 25th.
